Thunder .. Thunder.. Thundercats.. Ho !

The other night after a very hot day, relief came in the form of a very heavy thunderstorm. It even woke me up at 3am and I can usually sleep through a storm. However the squatters cats didn’t see it like that and proceed to poop on the floor instead of their designated tray. We have to resort to this simply because this is what cats do. I have heard of stories whereby owners had trained their cats to do the business in the toilet bowl similar to the dog in the movie Bruce almighty -remember ? however I'm not sure that is such a good idea for a cat as they might fall in. The kittens will definitely fall in. Mrs. Klite recently disappeared cat was a rescue cat(adopted from cat charity paws) who had been so well trained that he did his business over the drainage hole (a feature of all wet bathrooms). Since they (the thundercats) were a bit crowded in their loo and a bit reluctant to do it without privacy(well how would you feel ? – besides they can’t hold a newspaper in their paws – the paper too big) we thought something new was in order. So we took them to the vet to get them checked up.

Apparently they are in excellent conditions for stray cats probably due to our care, but they did have fleas. The very word makes me itch as I have bad memories of a neighbours cat we befriended in my family home called Ronnie who returned our gesture with a few stowaways of his own. It took a long time to eradicate the fleas.. see ? did the word make your skin itch ? By the way this expert on cats – the vet has 33 cats of his own in his home! I am amazed at how he copes with them- has “paws ” relocated ?? I get freaked out when I’m trying to have a bowl of cornflakes in the morning in my armchair with three kittens all sitting on the arm licking their lips and staring at me like something out of the “Midwich Cuckoos”

The cats were a bit temperamental about being in the vets, I guess it was the equivalent of us going to the dentist. They were spared the trauma of a thermometer to check their temperature and I do mean trauma because they don’t put it in their mouths. I’ll leave it to you to figure out the destination. So they had jabs, worm tablets and an appointment to be spayed/neutered. Before anyone writes in complaining about how cruel that must be .. well you are not the one who faces the prospect of three kitten becoming fully reproductive in two months, yes I said two months and they are only about 2 months old now !

We stopped off at Ikano which for the uninitiated is a shopping area in Mutaria Damansara (Mutaria means pearl) which contains a Tescos, Ikea and a shopping mall called the Curve where a young woman was recently murdered in the back of her boutique – just to paint this pretty suburban picture in your mind!. We went up to pets wonderland to get a new bigger litter tray. I was tempted to look in Ikea but somehow the idea of a flat pack pine finish litter tray with a strange brand name like smorgasbord didn’t really appeal to me. So we grabbed this thing that I can only describe as the cat equivalent of a porta loo. The kind you find on building sites and in jack ass style programs where they like turn it upside down and shake it with some poor unfortunate soul inside who gets a real live close up experience. We grabbed some cat litter as well to fill up and it turns out I'm entitled to a free gift chosen from a “spin the wheel board” I had to do it three times because they had run out of the first two items. I won a tin of M&Ms “which was nice” and thought they were cat M&Ms, well it is a pet shop after all.


Before I forget .. the little game where I had you guessing the delicacy that looks like lumps of coal in the photo? (see article 2005-02-14 Chinese Lions, Kembung and Valentines) – well they were salted eggs.. and they are very salty- probably not a good idea to eat too many of them, your blood pressure will soar not to mention your raging thirst.
