Trojan Odyssey

Just finished reading this book by Clive Cussler , who is probably famous at this moment for the movie rendering of his book “Sahara” (see past article). This is the final book of the series involving the character of Dirk Pitt who has been retired to more quieter pastures of NUMA. His role is taken up by Kurt Austin in the series which Clive is writing with Paul Kemprecos. This was inevitable in much the same way as the actors who play in the Bond movie, time moves on and so must the characters. The basis of this story is based on Homers epic of Odysseus and his odyssey from Troy with a twist of rewriting the history of this period. From thereon Pitt and his sidekick Giordino battles new bad guys in Nicaragua. The usual background of information is injected into the book about the subjects of the Panama canal and the Celts. The book follows the formula set in the past of bad guys, babes and adventures, but with a difference in which there are some very unsubtle hints about Dirk Pitts change of future. These were almost boarding on annoying and I felt they could have been done more gradually. The end of the book brings a conclusion to the adventure so dirk pitt and opens the way for a new adventurer – Kurt Austin, very James Bond..ish.

As I’m writing this, one of our many cats has decided to bring an offering to us, I suspect this may have something to do with us looking after my sisters kitten while her family are in Sabah. Midnight being a street cat who adopted us may have felt that the new arrival would mean us pushing her away, but anyway look at the offering in the photo below, its as big as my hand, must be the steroids in the water.
